who are the selcks??

my husbands gr gr grandfather is Timothy Selck. He at different times or different sources has gone by any of the following combinations: Timmon, Timm, Tim , Timothy and Selck, or Selk. He was married as Selk and his first two children were given the name Selk. He had 4 in all. They were lydia, Helena(lana), cora and william. Changes in the name often were common as they were not any laws governing names and documentation in the mid 1800's. Timothy was one of the children of Peter and Anna Selck (presumably- unverified) according to one of his brothers marriage certificate. The children of Peter and Anna were Timothy, Anna(hans raabe), catharine/kate(joseph white) charles/claus, Johan/hans/john(matilda bornitz) and Peter(katherine fischer/fritz). Of the siblings timothy is believed to have come over first in 1866. Next is believe to be peter. Peter married in 1870s and had one son and died shortly after. His wife katherine remarried albert fritz. charles, kate, and john emmigrated in april of 1870. all of them settled in winona minnesota. Peter and Anna are believed to have stayed behind in germany as well as Anna their daughter. Timothys obituary states he was born in stellau , Germany which is right outside of hamburg. its population in 1845,(the year after his birth) was 145. The US documentation on the others states they are from Nuemunster. None the less we know they are all from the Holstein area, the northern part of the german empire(then).
